I was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. I left the Midwest to earn my undergraduate degree at Harvard University, then spent several years working for the New York Daily News in New York City.
I slowly migrated back to my Midwestern roots by attending law school at the University of Wisconsin. Inspired by a bankruptcy course in law school, I decided to focus my practice on bankruptcy and representing debtors. I clerked for Judge Robert D. Martin of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Wisconsin and taught the bankruptcy law course at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2010 and 2013.
In 2010 I returned to Dubuque and practiced at Reynolds & Kenline for 11 years. I formed my own law firm in 2021 to provide clients with a more personalized level of service. I help people with their debt problems, such as filing bankruptcy, avoiding foreclosure, and defending against debt collection lawsuits. I help people start and run small businesses. I work with children and parents who are involved in the juvenile court system.
